Orange City nonprofit Backpack Buddies distributes 30,000 pounds of food to those in need

The Daytona Beach News-Journal | by Katie Kustura | DELAND — The food giveaway didn’t officially start until 4 p.m. Thursday, but vehicles were lining up as early as 1 p.m.

And by the time they started rolling through the parking lot of the Wayne G. Sanborn Activity Center, the line went about as far as the eye could see on Alabama Avenue.

“You just don’t realize until you see something like this how many people need help in their life,” Susan Remington, a volunteer with Backpack Buddies of Orange City, said.
